Hilary's Transparent Skin Breakdown

There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not asked about my skin. I find it on one hand hilarious, because I think skin is one of those things that regardless with where it’s at we all feel like it can be better. But on the other hand, I have invested so much into my skin so it’s not something I am surprised by.
I am so invested into beauty.. makeup, skin, hair, that I know a lot about the treatments and products but also what others do. So, I know many are just not transparent with what they get done, and the general public feel like there is something wrong with them- when in fact it has nothing to do with "what you were born with” and everything to do with what you invest into.
It’s important that I content note this piece with: we all choose very consciously on what we invest into. It could be property, lifestyle, food, travel, fun, psychologists, motorbikes, skin or clothes.. in my life I have chosen travel, mental health and skin. So please know, this was a conscious choice and like anything if you want something or yourself to excel it requires time, effort and annoyingly cash.
I want to be really transparent with what treatments I have had but also am currently doing. This is so you know what it takes to invest but what I will also do is break down based on budgets what you can do, and what has the most impact. I’m doing this firstly, as a space for resource (I loooooooove when people share through deep experience their top tips-sharing is caring as I tell my kids) but also, to create a moment to remind us all that we simply can't benchmark ourselves against others.
There are celebrities and models out there that yes, may be genetically blessed but are also investing so heavily into their bodies. We just don't know how much, because they may communicate “I've just had a little botox”. When in fact, that’s so far away from the truth.
This will feel in-depth, but I think again it’s important to note what goes into it.
Treatments:
- I get regular facials at HUD in Melbourne which focuses on strong barrier support. I love their enzyme facials, I work regularly with my capillaries with them using Aerolase (diffused redness), BBL for broken caps and love their Potenza Needling. This ongoing work with them is super important. Needling is one of the most important things you can do consistently through your life BUT you can't do it without a strong cell barrier, which is why their other treatments and skin care is important.
- I go to Skinologie in Melbourne for my injectables. I have tried many before and have really mucked around- I cannot emphasise enough how important finding the RIGHT injector is. I get Botox, Hyaluronic Acid in my lips (doesn’t add volume, just moisture) and Profhilo. I have been getting Botox since I was 30. I started off super slow and in small amounts but have worked up and am going in a bit harder since turning 40. I like to approach my injectables naturally and without changing my face.
- I take GHK-CU Peptide for (amongst a few things it does) my skin. This in conjunction with the right diet, supplements and hydration is doing amazing things for my skin.
- When I go to Korea I get deep lasers like Titanium, Ulthera etc but I also get skin boosters each time like Collagen & PDRN. They evolve so quickly over there that each time I go, I get something new, but my budget is only ever around 2-3k when I'm there so I can't go wild. I would love to try their stem cells and a few other treatments I have been noting having impact. I go to Korea at the moment 1-3 times a year.
Products
- I try to keep my routine simple, but adaptable. I don't ever do more than four products per go morning or night but I do have a few that I rotate, as like many of you, my skin is never the same weekly, monthly or year round. My cycle, the weather, water intake etc play a big part.
- I am also currently developing the Holme Skin range so I use that mainly but as I will encourage when it launches.. you should never rely on a set range. Due to the mentioned above, it’s important to adapt as per your skins needs.
- When my skin is dry I use the Holme cleanser, an acid serum (one coming for Holme) to polish and remove dead skin, Dr. Reju-All from Korea and oils at night. Any face oil will do!
- When my skin is oily I pull back the oils and deep hydration and use the serum more and focus on pore refining and oil production.
- I always use an eye cream: I currently am using the Bioheal Probioderm
- And always use a lip treatment as I have dry lips: I love anything.. Lanolin, nipple cream, Laneige treatment
- When I fly, or pre-event, or an important makeup I always do a sheet mask. The Medicube ones are ace.
- Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!!!!
Some of you may love what I've shared above and some of you may scoff. And that’s ok! I invest into my skin mainly because I am super interested and passionate about skin and beauty, partially because for my job I have to look at myself deeply each day so am more aware of it and also, I am beauty brand founder. I don't think one has to have great skin but I do think it’s important to invest into it, so it can be the best it can to represent the business and myself well.
If I had a smaller budget, from the above what would I invest in?
- Botox: 4-6 months (I sometimes go once a year)
- Needling: Everything 3-6 months
- Skincare: simple and easy system plus sunscren
- Peptide injection
But there are some things that are free that have just as much impact: 8 hours sleep, 3lts of water a day and lowering stress. These have a MASSIVE impact on skin health and are things we can work towards.
Again, we all choose what we invest in. And I love to show up for me, to remind myself that I am worthy of being seen- mainly by myself but by others too. Showing up in ritual for my skin health is a habit I love and will always do.
I hope this has been a helpful blog for you!
