Celebrating Mum's today, every day- always!
Happy Mother's Day!
To all mums, women who mother and women who look forward to the day they do- in any capacity. Mother's Day is always a day of the year that brings up some feels.. whether its in how you have been mothered, who is in or not in your life or how we show up to mother.
8 months ago my own mum passed away after a year in palliative, dying from cancer- though in retrospect she had been dying for decades, dealing with an absolute insane amount of unhealed trauma.
It's these experiences as women and mother's that we hold in life- to both guide and teach us in how we want to show up. My mum will most likely show up for me more in her passing than she ever did in her lived life- I choose that path and choose that relationship, because I know theres love within it. Thats the gift I give myself.
The mum journey for most is laden with stuff and whilst we have some pretty incredible moments with our babies, that really hold us to the journey- it would be amiss of me not to acknowledge the reality of being a mum and what we face day in day out.
Whether its the total overload of expectation between managing the household, children, working full time, exercising, eating well, seeing family & friends etc etc etc, its a bloody slog to also be managing that whilst navigating many of our own wounds from how we were raised and how those wounds reopen often, daily whilst being a mum.
But, us women- we are made of some deeply resilient magic. Not born into the privileges of being born a male, means from day dot we have had to adapt, build, navigate, learn and strengthen ourselves, into the women we are and also, who we want to be.
And now, here we are- damn warriors. Yes, perhaps a little hardened but look at what we get done. There is no woman more capable, trustworthy and agile as a mother.
As we experience some wild times domestically and globally, let us remind ourselves at who we are, what we are capable of and whats important. Not to be minimised or conformed into expectation- but rather, boundaried and soft. We are here to have a beautiful impact on this world with our love, mothering not just our children but nurturing the world.
That's our super power. And its a bloody phenomenal one that will save the world.
All my love, Hilary x
